Of course, we’re talking about your closet.
Quick fact: did you know that during colonial times, the British imposed a tax on American citizens who had closets in their homes? Now, centuries later, nearly every new home is equipped with quite a few of them. For years, wall closets were the most popular kind, but in recent decades, other options have become very popular home features, even boosting property values in many markets.
Historically an option allotted to the well-off in Old Europe, separate dressing areas have made a resurgence, offering people the convenience of being able to shower, groom and dress in the same area, perhaps even with a beverage or even a meal in hand.
This trend paralleled that of the custom dressing room: an entire room designed to house every season of your entire wardrobe. But it doesn’t have to stop there. Only limited design-wise in scope by one’s imagination, dressing rooms can contain not only shelving and drawers for your clothing and shoes, but also seating areas, storage islands, televisions, deluxe sound systems, mirrors, fabulous lighting… the list goes on. These special rooms can be uber-comfortable sanctuaries – and are no longer only an extravagance for the Carrie Bradshaws of the world.
