The holidays have now dug in and we are full speed ahead. Hopefully, between all the party-planning and gift-shopping, you have time to have a rest and take it all in. This is truly a joyous time of the year, but one of the best ways to indulge in its wonders is by allowing yourself to take load off and just… be still. That being said, what are you sitting on right at this very moment?

From an interior design standpoint, one of the things we tend to take most for granted is our seating. Sure, we may spend a good week or two picking out that deep, leather sofa that makes the whole living room pop. But what about the other items upon which we rest our tails?  In just the last few years, the world of interior design has been shaken and stirred by some of the coolest chairs ever made, and we just couldn’t let 2017 get by without pointing our fingers toward some wonderful examples.

A chair has the ability to say so much about a space – even tell a story. If chosen properly, it can become the focal point of a room, while still retaining its useful and utilitarian nature. Take this lovely wooden piece from Piegatto. Not only is it marvelous to look at, but it’s also quite comfortable. We could definitely fall fast asleep in this one after a glass (or two) of egg nog.

Mid-century-mania doesn’t show any signs of retreating. Perhaps, like so many of us, you’ve also been bitten by the bug. If that’s the case, then you’re in big luck when on the search for a great chair. You could go for a traditional simple and modest look. Or, maybe you’re ready for something bold and daring.

We’d be remiss not to include seating for areas of the home that fall beyond the usual living or family rooms. If you’ve got the space, here’s a stunning chair that goes beautifully in the master bathroom. And for the kitchen and dining area, check out this set of chairs that is anything but traditional.

The foyer has always been a popular area in which to place a chair – but how about a lounge chair? Notice how this one adds the perfect amount of drama to the entrance. Hard to beat. Got an area in your bedroom that could use a little pick-me-up? Try placing an adorable piece of seating like this one into it.

Try not to fret too much over whether your new chair will “go with” rest of the interior. What’s more important from a design POV is, does it speak to you? Does it create an atmosphere and mood that invites people into the space? After all, the main goals for design a home space include comfort and warmth. Don’t be timid: play around with out-of-the-box solutions. You might just stumble into the seating choice of a lifetime.

Do you have a chair that is just to die for? We want to see it! Email us a photo. And Happy Holidays from Eileen Gould Design & Construction! See you in 2018.
