Often times when I first interview a client and ask them to have their significant other at the meeting they say, “Oh he or she is not interested” Believe me they are because when it comes to money and time people are interested.

Today I want to focus on the men and the man cave. This is when they can spend the money primarily on themselves.

More and more people are working out of their homes and spending time in their special retreats. What goes in the cave? Obviously memorabilia related to family friends and hobbies is a place to start. What color will the walls be? What style furniture? How will the “cave” be used? Will it just be an office; a place to read or watch movies, a place to play games, have drinks and watch the game on the big screen or perhaps a combination.

Once the theme is set and the basic decor is installed it’s time to think about “toys” that can make the room even more fun. Technology can enhance the room by turning on and off music, lighting, opening and closing window treatments and even using robots. With technology comes wires and plugs, make sure all are strategically placed and hidden from sight.

Lately we are insulating the walls so they are more sound efficient. Think about the music lover who likes to blast their favorites or who plays an instrument, drums come to mind.

Many men enjoy a good cigar and their cave is the perfect place. To make sure the whole house doesn’t stink from it humidifiers, and air circulation systems helps alleviate some of the smell. Skylights and windows that open are a must.

Creating a man cave for Father’s day is a great gift. It doesn’t have to be expensive and you would be amazed at what simple changes can be done. We even offer a free consultation to get you started.

Have a great Father’s Day, and remember just like Mother’s Day we want to celebrate fathers and mothers all year round.
